Scenes from 2016 Watermelon Party

To celebrate Independence Day, Wolf Park throws a Watermelon Party – all of our animals get special treats inside a watermelon. This event displays the individual nature of our wolves, coyotes, foxes, and even the bison. Some roll the melon over, some tear the melon to pieces. Dr. Klinghammer called this behavior “an appetance for tearing” similar to chewing into a carcass – a self-rewarding task for a predator.

Thanks to everyone who made the party fun and interesting- our visitors and sponsors, the Day Camp kids, our wonderful Volunteers and Staff, PayLess Grocery Stores for the watermelons, and Gibson’s Shaved Ice for tasty treats.
